“Oasen” (Oasis) refers to an area at the south side of the Gløshaugen plateau, in front of the faculty of Civil and Environmental Engineering, and down the hill from what will become the new building for Material Technology (P2) in the campus building project. This place has a sheltered character, nestled between several tall buildings and at the bottom of a small grassy mound. It is a natural amphitheater, and a low-traffic area where students can relax in the grass or play ball.

As one of three spaces for art, “Oasen” will focus on a space as a site, and the site as a natural gathering point. Artist Pedro Gomez-Egaña has been invited to a preliminary project, to develop a main work that can create this space. In line with Gomez-Egaña’s practice, and inspired by the surrounding academic studies, the work will orient itself downwards, into the ground, towards large-scale movement initiated by industrial interventions, the meeting between human and geological time.

Next to this main work, “Oasen” will become a space for conversations, performances and other gatherings. The project will invite students and academic communities to collaborate along the way.
