Art and Common Space was initiated by Maaretta Jaukkuri and Anne Karin Furunes. The course takes as its starting- point the necessity to re-imagine public space/place in relation to artistic, architectural and other creative practices. The course is partly theory-based, always mindful of practical situations and real-life scenarios.. The course will increase and guide the students' awareness of the possibilities and challenges of presenting/placing art both in nature and in urban situations. Students can analyse and reflect critically on various issues relevant for adressing the overlapping challenges of space, time and communication within common/public space. The student has acquired a working knowledge of the history of public space in relation to art and architecture, and how to relate and articulate it to the urgent issues in contemporary society.
